Proofs

PRINT A HARD COPY

Before printing a job, you will receive a proof. With this proof you will receive a proof sheet that must be signed, okayed and sent back via messenger or fax before we will proceed with printing your job. There are several things to pay particular attention to when you receive your proof.

SAMPLE PROOF SHEET

A. This is the Job Number for your order. If you have questions about your order, please have this number handy, so we can easily reference your order.

B. This is the number of proofs you have been sent.

Things to check on your proof...
C.
layout - make sure everything (pictures, graphics, text) is positioned correctly.

D. typestyle and its arrangement - check to see if the fonts are correct, and that the text breaks where you want it to (widows, hyphenation...)

E. all spelling, particularly proper names - spell check catches a lot of mistakes, but errors to slip by. Be sure to double check proper names.

F. telephone, fax and pager numbers - numbers are one of the most common places for mistakes to slip by. Make sure numbers haven't been flipped.

G. folding - if your job is to be folded, there will usually be a dotted/dashed line to indicate where the fold will be.

H. the location of all numbers (and start #) - check placement of page numbers and counter numbers.

I. color separations, if any - if you are having something printed in multiple colors (ie. black plus a spot color), you will receive a composite proof (either black and white, or color) as well as proof separations (laser sheets for each color indicating what will be printed in each ink). Please check to make sure everything is the color it is supposed to be. Note: on a color copy composite proof, colors are not necessarily the precise color they will be when they are offset printed.

J. When you have finished looking over your proof, check either "Proof OK please proceed with order." OR "Make corrections as marked and send another proof." If any corrections are made--no matter how minor--we will send another proof for you to okay.

K. We will not proceed with your order UNTIL we receive your okay, therefore be sure to return your proof sheet in a timely manner.

L. Be sure to sign the proof sheet before you return it.
